CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago-area residents took time Sunday to remember victims of the Holocaust.

It was the Chicago-area's 73rd annual Holocaust Memorial Observance, held at the Skokie Valley Agudath Jacob Synagogue in Skokie.

It's considered one of the largest gatherings of Holocaust survivors in the Midwest.

Organizer Henry Jelen says the message is as strong today as it was 73 years ago.

"The snake is coming out again of antisematisim," he said. "We don't want this to happen to other people."

About six million Jews, including a million-and-a-half children, were killed during the Holocaust carried out by Nazi Germany.
